Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, also called “Mazi Gburugburu,” is a respected Nigerian scholar, researcher, advocate for good governance, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who has made
noteworthy advancements in the fields of Political Science, Economics, and Development Studies.
Dr. Amadi has made significant contributions to the fields of Political science, Economics, and Development studies. His commitment to promoting accountability and transparency in governance has earned him recognition and accolades nationally and internationally. He is the founder and former chairman of the board of trustees of the Centre for
Transparency Advocacy (CTA), chairs the Julian-Matt Group, and founded the Jude and Juliana Foundation. In 2023, he was recognized as the Social Crusader of the Year by The New
Telegraph Newspapers, and in 2024, he was honored as the Imo State Man of The Year.
Born in Kano, Nigeria, Dr. Amadi grew up amidst religious tensions that forced his family to relocate to southeastern Nigeria. He completed his secondary education in Imo State and pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Ibadan, where he also served as Secretary General of the Students Union, sparking his interest in governance and transparency.
Dr. Amadiโs academic journey is extensive, including multiple Masterโs degrees from institutions
such as the London School of Economics and Political Science, University College London, and the University of Ibadan. His fields of study span Comparative Public Policy, Political Science, and Economics. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Warwick, focusing on democratic theory and security studies.
As the founder and former Chairman Board of Trustees of the Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA), Dr. Amadi was instrumental in advocating for transparency and good
governance. Prior to this, he served as Senior Programme Manager at Partners for Electoral Reform, where he played a crucial role in promoting fair elections in Nigeria. His early career also includes servingas Secretary General of the Shehu Musa YarโAdua Memorial Association, contributing to civic and voter education projects.
Dr. Amadiโs research and advocacy focus on governance, accountability, and elections in Nigeria. He has published works like “2019 Elections in Nigeria: The Clear and Present
Dangers” and has presented papers at various conferences, addressing development ideologies, gender politics, and democratic processes.
Through his Jude and Juliana Foundation, Dr. Amadi has supported his community in Imo State, offering scholarships and business capital to Nigerian youths. His philanthropic efforts earned him the “Okpata Ozuo Oha 1 of Ngor-Okpala” title in 2024. Additionally, he has received numerous academic awards, including the prestigious Chevening Scholarship and the Jide Owoeye Prize for Foreign Policy Analysis.
In 2024, Dr. Amadi formed โThe Mazi Organizationโ also known as TMO, an organization founded by Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, aimed at fostering community engagement, driving
development, and contributing to Nation Building.
